Fall is here… and so are sweater vests?

Blazers, sweater vests, pleated skirts, trousers… ah fall is here. If you’ve been on Instagram, then you probably know that sweater vests have been a big trend thus far; whether they be oversized or cropped. I went on a little vest hunt myself where I tried to find the absolute perfect sweater vest for this fall… things truly seemed hopeless because either the vests were  either:

  1. All sold out

Or

     2. They just didn’t fit the description

You see, I envisioned a perfectly beige v-neck vest that has a bigger fit (not too tight) so I could wear an oversized white blouse underneath. I couldn’t find a vest anywhere so I ventured out to stores like H&M and Zara (I didn’t end up buying from there, as I’m not much of a fan). Do you think I ended up buying my perfectly-envisioned beige vest? No. Not even close. Instead, I bought the House of Sunny detachable-sleeve sweater in light blue. I’ve purchased from them before, and I know that they’re a reputable, sustainable brand, so I went for it. Sure the vest didn’t match my expectations when I saw it online but believe you me, once I tore their compostable packaging open and pulled out that vest, it was everything I could’ve dreamed of and more. Why? Well, because it’s fuzzy and has a slight argyle pattern, but not the classic one that you see on golf vests.

I must say, I don’t normally follow trends. I know there has been a surge in the Y2K style, for example, low rise jeans and crop tops with tiny animations (like a cherry). Although cute, it’s not really my style. I like more of a classy look with trousers, a blazer, or an oversized sweater, which is probably why I gave into the vest trend.

Honestly, I encourage buying a sweater vest because you can style it in so many ways:

  1. Vest + blouse for a more business casual look
  2. By itself
  3. Vest + a polo underneath for a “school girl” vibe.
